Penguins sign Taylor Gauthier to one-year contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Friday the club signed goaltender Taylor Gauthier to a one-year contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
The deal is worth $775,000 at the NHL level. The team also announced that he’s been loaned back to the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers.

The 25-year-old Gauthier has appeared in 22 games this season with the Nailers, and has posted an 11-6-5 record with a .924 save percentage (SV%) and 2.07 goals against average (GAA).
Earlier this week, Gauthier became the Nailer’s all-time wins leader, recording his 61st career victory with the club.
In 110 career ECHL games, Gauthier has a 61-39-9 record with a .920 SV% and 2.28 GAA with eight shutouts. He was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Year in 2023-24.
Last season, he posted an 18-10-2 record with a .928 SV% and 2.06 GAA in 30 games.
He’s also appeared in 25 career AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he’s gone 10-5-7 with a .908 SV% and 2.77 GAA and two shutouts.
In junior, Gauthier spent parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince George Cougars and Portland Winterhawks. Through 194 career regular-season games, he posted a 77-91-16 record with a .909 SV% and 3.03 GAA.
His best junior season came in 2021-22, where in 28 games he posted a 24-4-0 record with a .931 SV% and 2.16 GAA.
Gauthier, a Calgary native, has represented Canada on several occasions, including the 2021 World Junior Championships, helping Canada earn silver. He also won a gold medal at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The Penguins are 31-17-13 with 75 points through 61 games in 2025-26, which ranks second in the Metropolitan Division.
