The Pittsburgh Penguins announced a litany of roster moves on Tuesday night in response to recent injuries the team has suffered.

The Penguins have placed goaltender Tristan Jarry as well as forwards Noel Acciari and Justin Brazeau on injured reserve. To fill their vacant roster spots, they’ve recalled forward Danton Heinen, defenseman Ryan Graves and goaltender Sergei Murashov.

The moves come in the wake of a disappointing loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night in which the Penugins squandered a 3-0 lead on their way to a 4-3 loss.

Jarry, who struggled so badly in recent years that he was widely seen as a buyout candidate this offseason, has been a key driver in Pittsburgh’s surprising early-season success. The veteran goaltender owns a .911 save percentage and a 2.60 goals against average while earning wins in five of his seven starts.

As long as Jarry’s out, Arturs Silovs will serve as the team’s starting goaltender, while Murashov will operate as his backup. The 21-year-old Russian is a highly-touted prospect, and he’s been dominant with the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins so far, posting a .931 SV% and 1.73 GAA through seven appearances.

Brazeau’s loss is an impactful one for the Penguins, as he had found a great niche along with Anthony Mantha as Evgeni Malkin’s wingers. The six-foot-six power forward had six goals and six assists for 12 points in his first 12 games in black and gold.

Acciari, a veteran bottom-six mainstay, has 3 assists in his 13 appearances. Heinen is an NHL veteran of 566 games, but he has yet to make an appearance in Pittsburgh this season, posting 14 points in 10 AHL games to this point.

Likewise, Graves returns to Pittsburgh for his first NHL action of the season. The Nova Scotia native has 7 points in his 10 AHL games.

Despite a tough loss last night against the Leafs, Pittsburgh still holds the second-place spot in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 8-4-2. The Penguins are back in action at home against Washington on Thursday night.
