The Western Conference Finals start tonight in Denver, Colorado as the Avalanche host the Edmonton Oilers in game one of the series. The Avalanche open the series as favourites coming in at -270. They’re also -115 to win the series in six games or earlier, which is probably the best spot to go if you want to wager on Colorado winning this best-of-seven series.

As far as series bets go, my favourite prop is centred around Evander Kane. His over/under for goals in this series is set at 2.5 with the over paying -143. The Oilers forward has scored a hat trick in each of the last two series and has a tendency to score goals in bunches. Honestly, having the line for the playoff’s leading goal scorer set at 2.5 just doesn’t seem right. I think this is a great spot.

On the Avalanche side, my favourite prop is Valeri Nichushkin over 4.0 points. It’s paying -118 which is solid considering he’s hit this mark in each of the Avalanche’s first two series of the playoffs. As it stands right now, he’s also slated to start the series on the teams top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. He will have plenty of chances to produce.

For the series opener tonight, the Oilers opened up as +155 underdogs, which is interesting considering they’re +255 to win the series. McDavid and MacKinnon are both +125 to find the back of the net while Leon Draisailt is +130 on Pointsbet.

I’m going with a prop tonight and I’ll be betting on Mike Smith over 32.5 saves. The Avalanche have put up 34-plus shots in eight of their ten playoff games and I think they’ll be hungry to throw a lot of rubber towards Smith in the series opener. As long as he doesn’t get yanked like he did in game one against the Calgary Flames, then this is a good spot.
