A landmark streaming deal has been landed for the NHL north of the border.

On Tuesday, Prime Video and Rogers Communications announced a new 12-year agreement that will allow Prime Video to exclusively broadcast regular-season games on Wednesday nights, in both English and French, starting with the 2026-27 season.

As part of the deal, Prime will carry at least 26 games during the season, beginning on Sept. 30. On top of that, the streaming platform will be sublicensed two series in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and one in the division finals. This will mark the first time that postseason games will be broadcast in Canada outside of Rogers’ family of networks (Sportsnet and Citytv) and CBC since Rogers bought exclusive NHL broadcast rights in 2014.

Prime Video has been streaming NHL games in Canada for the past two seasons, solely carrying regular-season contests on Monday nights. It has gained a lot of praise for its production and on-site broadcasts, despite the common criticism for those who have yet to cut the cord.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman states that the deal will benefit fans in the Great White North.

“Over the past two years, Prime Video has been a valuable addition to the NHL’s media lineup in Canada, joining Rogers in bringing marquee NHL games to Canadian fans,” Bettman said in a release. “We’re excited that Prime Video and Rogers are deepening their relationship through this long-term agreement, reflecting our shared commitment to serving English and French-language hockey fans across Canada with premium NHL content for years to come.”

“Our partnership with Prime Video builds on the strong foundation we have established together and reinforces NHL hockey as the most valuable sports content in Canada,” Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers, added. “As Canada’s home of hockey, Rogers is committed to connecting more fans to more NHL hockey and delivering more national games with fewer blackouts on Sportsnet, Canada’s #1 sports media brand.”

More information about talent and production details will be announced at a later date.
