PWHL News: Minnesota activates Brodt from LTIR, Montreal signs Grant-Mentis to 10-day contract

Good news for a team looking to have a little more secondary scoring, while someone is getting a shot with her new team.
On Saturday, PWHL Minnesota activated forward Sydney Brodt off long-term injured reserve. The 25-year-old was hurt during a game at the league’s development camp back in December, and has not seen the ice since.
Brodt is expected to bring much experience to Minnesota, as she has been around the pro ranks since graduating from Minnesota-Duluth in 2020. The North Oaks, Minnesota native spent one season playing on the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour, earning MVP honors in one season with Linköping HC of the SDHL, and was an all-star last season while playing with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation.
Brodt also has experience on the international stage, having won gold with Team USA at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championships.
Per GM Natalie Darwitz, Brodt is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday’s matchup with New York. Minnesota (7-3-3-4) is tied for first with Montreal and Toronto.
Speaking of Montreal, they have signed forward Miklya Grant-Mentis to a 10-day contract. The Brampton, Ontario native was signed to the team’s reserve list last Friday, after being released from her contract with Ottawa last month.
The former Toronto Six star played just six games with Ottawa, registering three assists. The 25-year-old has not seen any game action since Jan. 27. Despite having prior professional experience, earning PHF MVP honors while with the Six, Grant-Mentis had to earn a spot on the team after getting invited to training camp.
MGM made waves before the 2022-23 season, as she signed a $100,000 contract with Buffalo Beauts.
Montreal (7-3-3-4) is preparing to play in the second leg of the Takeover Series, as they take on rival Toronto at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
