PWHL San Jose hires Lundberg, Turi as assistant coaches

A notable name is coming to a bench in the PWHL.
On Tuesday, PWHL San Jose announced it has hired Uffe Lundberg and Jessica Turi as assistant coaches for its inaugural season.
The duo will join head coach and general manager Troy Ryan next fall, giving the team an experienced coaching staff for the 2026-27 campaign.
Lundberg and Ryan know each other very well from the international stage. Lundberg has been the head coach of the Swedish Women’s National Team for the past six years. With Damkronoma, he led the group to each of the past two Winter Olympics, with Sweden making a surprising run to the semifinals in Milan this past February. Ultimately, his team fell to Switzerland in a thrilling bronze medal game. On top of that, Lundberg coached Sweden to the knockout stage of the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship, pushing Canada to overtime in the quarterfinals.
In a release, the 46-year-old admitted how elated he is at the opportunity to join the fastest-growing women’s league in the world.
“I am really excited for the next chapter in my coaching career,” said Lundberg. “I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to coach in the best league in the world and I’m also looking forward to collaborating with Troy Ryan instead of coaching against him. We are going to build something truly great in San Jose.”
Turi has coached at all levels of the game. She was an assistant with the Toronto Six when the team won the Premier Hockey Federation’s last Isobel Cup in 2023. She was also an assistant with York University (2023-26) and the University of Toronto (2020-22). The 39-year-old was also a coach at Hockey Canada’s 2025 Women’s Selectin Team Camp.
“I am incredibly excited to join the coaching staff of PWHL San Jose and to help shape the identity and future of this program,” Turi said. “There is something truly special about building a culture from the ground up, and I look forward to collaborating daily with such a dedicated group of professionals to develop our athletes and establish a winning tradition. I cannot wait to connect with the passionate hockey fans of the Bay Area and deliver an exciting brand of hockey that our community will be proud to support.”
