The team in the Golden State is on the board.

On Friday, PWHL San Jose announced that the team has signed goaltender Corinne Schroeder and defender Rory Guilday to two-year contracts, marking the team’s first two players ahead of its inaugural season.

It’s the second year in a row that Schroeder is a foundational signing for an expansion team. Last year, she was one of the first five players to sign with the Seattle Torrent, exiting the New York Sirens after two years. She was brought to the Emerald City to be the No. 1 netminder and lead the new team to success. However, things didn’t go as well for the former Quinnipiac netminder. In 17 games, she posted a record of 5-8-1-3, with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. She and rookie goaltender Hannah Murphy tried their best, but ultimately Seattle finished last in the PWHL.

Schroeder’s rough campaign ultimately led to general manager Meghan Turner electing to protect Murphy over her, also keeping defender Anna Wilgren and forward Alex Carpenter from signing elsewhere.

In 52 career games in the PWHL, Schroeder is 22-23-2-5, with a 2.46 GAA, a .921 SV% and five shutouts.

Guilday is coming off a thrilling rookie season. After starring at Cornell, she was the Ottawa Charge’s first pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft. The young blueliner had some growing pains early on, but slowly came into her own as the campaign wore on, becoming one of the Charge’s more reliable defenders. She and the team made another surprising run through the postseason, making it to the Walter Cup Final, where Ottawa fell to the Montreal Victoire in four games.

The Minnesota native scored a goal and nine points in 30 regular-season games, posting a plus/minus of -5 while averaging 20:54 of ice time. She added two points in eight postseason contests.

Guilday also represented the United States at the Olympics, helping the team win the gold medal for the first time since 2018.

San Jose now has three of the five roster spots filled for Phase 2 of the Expansion Player Distribution Process. The second phase ends on June 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
