The next addition to the Emerald City during the exclusive signing window is a big one.

On Friday, PWHL Seattle announced the team has signed forward Alex Carpenter to a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season.

She was made available after the New York Sirens elected not to protect her from the expansion process. Instead, general manager Pascal Daoust and company decided to keep star rookie Sarah Fillier, defender Ella Shelton and captain Micah Zandee-Hart under wraps from the two new teams coming into the league.

However, losing Carpenter is a huge blow for New York, as the U.S. National Team star has been a key player for the struggling team in the league’s first two years of existence. In her first year, she led the team in scoring with 23 points, tying for second among PWHL skaters. She was even named a finalist for the Forward of the Year and Billie Jean King MVP Award.

While the Sirens suffered a similar fate during the 2024-25 season, finishing last in the league standings, Carpenter had another productive year, despite missing a few games due to injury. The 31-year-old finished third on the team in scoring with 20 points, posting 11 goals and nine assists in 26 games.

Carpenter joins a talented group already signed by Seattle, headlined by USWNT teammates Hilary Knight and Cayla Barnes. General manager Meghan Turner also signed last year’s second-overall pick and Canadian National Team member Danielle Serdachny. Carpenter and Knight are both on one-year contracts, while Barnes is on a three-year deal and Serdachny signed a two-year contract.

Seattle is eligible to sign one more player before the team’s exclusive signing window ends on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET. Vancouver has already signed its maximum number of five players.

The first-ever PWHL Expansion Draft is on Monday, June 9.
