PWHL Seattle signs Corinne Schroeder to two-year contract

One of the more underrated goaltenders in the league has found a new home.
On Friday, PWHL Seattle announced the team has signed goaltender Corinne Schroeder to a two-year contract.
“The city has such a remarkable sports culture that I am eager to contribute to and build upon with our team,” Schroeder said in a release. “I am truly grateful to the New York Sirens organization for the past two seasons and would like to thank them for believing in me and supporting me every step of the way. I’m looking forward to meeting all the passionate fans and joining the Seattle hockey community. I can’t wait for puck drop out West.”
She was made available after the New York Sirens elected not to protect her from the expansion process. Instead, general manager Pascal Daoust and company decided to keep star rookie Sarah Fillier, defender Ella Shelton and captain Micah Zandee-Hart under wraps from the two new teams coming into the league.
Schroeder has been with the Sirens for the first two seasons of the PWHL’s existence. Coming from the Premier Hockey Federation, many wondered how that would translate to the new league. She quickly silenced any doubters by playing masterfully with an underachieving New York team. Schroeder was named a finalist for the PWHL Goaltender of the Year in 2024.
The 2024-25 season started with a lot of optimism for the Sirens, and Schroeder continued to play very well. Unfortunately, her game tailed off in the second half of the year, and with Kayle Osborne slowly improving, the 25-year-old briefly lost the starting job.
In two seasons in the PWHL, Schroeder has a record of 17-15-1-2 with five shutouts, four of which came this past season.
Schroeder is the fifth and final signing Seattle general manager Meghan Turner is allowed to make during the exclusive signing period. She signed Schroeder’s Sirens’ teammate Alex Carpenter earlier on Friday, also bringing in defender Cayla Barnes, forward Danielle Serdachny and Captain America, Hilary Knight.
With Schroeder and Carpenter being signed, the Sirens get to protect another player, per the PWHL’s expansion rules. They have elected to protect defender Maja Nylen-Persson.
With both Vancouver and Seattle having signed five players each, they will be allowed to add seven more players during the first-ever PWHL Expansion Draft. That is set for Monday, June 9.
