PWHL signings: Montreal signs Murphy; Minnesota signs Brodt, Bryant

There were multiple signings in the PWHL on Wednesday, including a Patty Kazmaier Award finalist and a World Championship gold medalist.
Here’s a look at each of them:
Montreal signs Maureen Murphy
Montreal signed American forward Maureen Murphy to a three-year deal, the team announced on social media.

Murphy, 23, spent three seasons with Providence college between 2017-18 and 2019-20 before transfering to Northeastern, where she would win a Hockey East championship three times between 2020-21 and 2022-23.
She was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2022-23, scoring 20 goals and 35 assists for 55 points. She was drafted by Montreal in the third round of last September’s PWHL Draft.
Minnesota signs Sydney Brodt, Brooke Bryant
Minnesota made a pair of signings, inking forwards Sydney Brodt and Brooke Bryant to one-year deals.

Brodt, selected by Minnesota in the 15th round of the PWHL Draft, spent last season as the captain of the PHF’s Minnesota Whitecaps, scoring five goals and four assists for nine points. Before that, she dominated the Swedish Elite League with Linkoping HC, scoring 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points in 36 games.
In college, she spent four years with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, three of which she served as captain. She scored 40 goals and 58 assists for 98 points in 141 games.
She represented the U.S. National Team in 2019, winning a World Championship gold medal. She also played in the Rivalry Series in 2022.

Bryant, 23, is coming off her senior year with Minnesota State University. During her five seasons in college, she scored 30 goals and 36 assists for 66 points.
A native of Linden, Calif., she played her youth hockey in both the Anaheim Lady Ducks and California Wave AAA minor hockey systems.
Toronto signs Alexa Vasko
Toronto signed forward Alexa Vasko to a one-year deal, the team announced on social media.

Vasko, 24, spent last season with the PWHPA, scoring four goals and an assist in 20 games. Before that, Vasko played five seasons with Mercyhurst University, serving as captain for three of them. She scored 38 goals and 51 assists for 89 points through her five seasons with Mercyhurst.
“I’m super excited to officially be part of the Toronto community,” said Vasko, whom Toronto selected in the 14th round of the draft. “The first two weeks of training camp have been absolutely incredible. Being on the ice with world-class talent, it’s been really fun.
“I can’t wait to see what we have in store,” she said.
Vasko earned a silver medal with Canada at the 2017 U18 World Championships.
