PWHL Toronto announced their first extension of the offseason Thursday, re-signing defender Allie Munroe to a two-year deal through the 2025-26 season.

The 27-year-old Munroe scored a goal and five assists for six points during the regular season, appearing in all 24 of Toronto’s games. The Yarmouth, N.S., native also had an assist in Toronto’s five-game series with PWHL Minnesota in the playoffs. She averaged 21:43 of ice time through the post-season.

ā€œI am so excited that I’m coming back to Toronto for two more years! I’m very grateful to continue my career and to be given the chance to play for this incredible organization,ā€ Munroe said in a team statement. ā€œI am looking forward to continuing to play in front of the best fans in the PWHL and to have the opportunity to compete for the Walter Cup!ā€

Toronto Manager General Manager Gina Kingsbury says Munroe plays a physical game that adds to the team’s backend.

ā€œShe exemplifies the values of our organization. We are thrilled to have Allie on our blue line for the next two seasons,ā€ Kingsbury added.

Including Munroe, Toronto has 12 players returning next season, including Natalie Spooner, Sarah Nurse, Blayre Turnbull, Renata Fast, Jocelyne Larocque and Kristen Campbell.

Toronto finished 17-7-0 in the PWHL’s inaugural season, finishing as the league’s top-ranked team. However, they lost their first-round series to Minnesota, who eventually defeated PWHL Boston in five games to become the first PWHL Walter Cup champions.

PWHL teams have a window until June 21 to offer extensions to players under contract. After June 21, players become free agents and can negotiate with other teams around the league for a new contract.
