Report: PWHL’s Walter Cup lost in transit

The Stanley Cup has a long history of tales, from sitting at the bottom of Ottawa’s Rideau Canal to spending a little too much time in swimming pools and many more vivid stories. Well, the PWHL’s Walter Cup now has a story of its own—it’s lost.
At least, the replica version of the trophy has spent the summer with members of the Walter Cup champion Montréal Victoire. According to reports by The Associated Press and comments from the PWHL, the trophy did not arrive in Lethbridge, Alberta, as expected, forcing Dara Greig’s trophy celebration event to be postponed.
A Reddit post suggested that the box carrying the trophy had arrived, but was filled with computer parts. However, those claims were not confirmed by the PWHL, which told the AP that the trophy “did not arrive as expected at its latest stop,” and added that they “are working closely with the shipping company to locate it.
Unlike the Stanley Cup’s summer travels, which have a supervisor with the replica trophy, the Walter Cup does not have similar security, and it’s unclear when a member of the Victoire or anyone else last saw it.
Both the authentic trophy and the replica are made of sterling silver, designed by jewelry company Tiffany & Co., and weigh 35 pounds, with two hockey sticks and six W’s encircling the cup part of the trophy.
In the spring, Montreal became just the second team to win the trophy in the league’s three years of existence, after the Minnesota Frost captured it in 2024 and 2025.
Named after the PWHL’s founder and primary investor, Mark Walter and his wife, Kimbra, the lost trophy is the latest piece of news in a challenging period for Mark, as he is involved in sweeping federal investigations into his finances and sports ownership investments, headlined by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
