Will Quinn Hughes re-sign with the Wild?

The Minnesota Wild have started the season on a strong footing, as they sit atop the Central Division with a 9-3-2 record, have the second-best record in the Western Conference and the third-best record in the league. A driving force in that success has been Quinn Hughes play on the blueline, as he’s been excellent at both ends of the ice for Minnesota.
But any excitement over Hughes feels too good to be true, especially when he remains unsigned and is set to become a free agent this summer with his six-year contract almost at its end. There will always be rumours that he wants to go to the New Jersey Devils to play with his brothers, but he’s also got a good thing going with the Wild, and could provide them their best chance at winning a Stanley Cup.
Will Hughes ultimately re-sign with the Wild? Jonny Lazarus joins Daily Faceoff Live to talk about what he thinks an extension for Hughes could look like.
Jonny Lazarus: I keep thinking about this one-year extension. Just signing one year, giving Billy some reward for going to get him.
He’s on a good team. It seems like he loves playing there. When you watch the Wild play, Quinn Hughes seems so happy to be out there. And we haven’t seen them fully healthy yet this year, obviously with Faber going down. I got to imagine if he is able to come back and be healthy, they’re a scary team.
I don’t really know. It’s so tough. I don’t think Quinn signs for more than one year if he’s staying in Minnesota, but I could see him signing for one just to want to see this thing through. The Wild are a very good hockey team.
I do think if he’s not signed by the deadline, I could see Billy holding on to him just to push all his chips in the middle and go for it. This is why he traded to get him, to give his team a shot. It’s such a tricky situation. If you’re not going to get the assets back that you gave up, you might as well just hang on to him.
