As of right now, there are no specifics regarding the average annual value of the contract or if it comes with any signing bonuses, and likely won’t be confirmed until the Blackhawks make the signing official.
Commesso was a second round pick for the Blackhawks in 2020, and is coming off a good season with Boston University, backstopping them to a Frozen Four appearance with a 24-8-0 record with a .913 save percentage and two shutouts in 34 games. It’s his third year with the program, one he joined in 2020 after he was drafted by the Blackhawks.
Daily Faceoff’s prospect analyst Steven Ellis had this to say about Commesso:
“Commesso is technically sound, but he’s got the speed in the crease to get over to the post quickly. He’s been dominant at every level in his career and can bail you out against top competition. When he’s on his game, Commesso is excellent.“
Commesso was drafted after spending the 2019-20 season with the US National Under-18 team in the USHL, where he played 11 games with a record of 8-2-0, a .917 save percentage, and two shutouts. He followed that up with a 6-3-1 record and a .915 save percentage in 11 games in his rookie season at Boston University in 2020-21, and a 13-11-3 record, a .914 save percentage, and a shutout in 28 games in his sophomore season in 2021-22.
Commesso also played for the U.S. Olympic team at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. He got into two games for the team, where he had a 2-0-0 record, a .964% save percentage, and a shutout as they got the top seed in the preliminary round, only to then lose in the quarterfinals to the eventual bronze medal winning Slovakian team.
