Bruce Cassidy wasn’t out of work for very long.

According to Kevin Weekes, the Vegas Golden Knights are going to hire Cassidy to be the team’s next head coach…

Cassidy was fired by Boston Bruins earlier this month after they were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Cassidy was hired by the Bruins in February of 2017 after the team fired Claude Julien. He spent six seasons as Boston’s coach, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019 and winning the Jack Adams Award in 2019-20. The Bruins made the playoffs in all six seasons that Cassidy coached the team.

The Golden Knights fired head coach Pete DeBoer immediately following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, in which the team missed out on the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. DeBoer was Vegas’ second-ever head coach, as he replaced Gerard Gallant when he was fired in January of 2020.

The Golden Knights were expected to contend for the Stanley Cup this season and their expectations grew even higher after the team acquired Jack Eichel from the Buffalo Sabres in November. But difficulties with injuries and the salary cap ultimately resulted in Vegas going 43-31-8 and finishing ninth in the Western Conference.
