Report: Senators’ Arthur Kaliyev accused of stealing from ex-girlfriend to pay gambling losses

Ottawa Senators forward Arthur Kaliyev has been accused by his former girlfriend of stealing over $50,000 from her in order to pay off gambling debts to teammates, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.
Ex-#NYR & current Belleville Senator Arthur Kaliyev is accused of scamming his ex out of over $50K to fund what she describes as a rampant gambling addiction that’s gone unaddressed by figures around the NHL.
The Post conducted a month-long investigation into the allegations⬇️…
According to the New York Post, model Lauren Mochen claims that Kaliyev scammed her out of the money over a three-year period. Mochen allegedly discovered Kaliyev had been stealing from her after an episode in which the former Hamilton Bulldog sent her cheques from his family’s shipping company that totaled $7,500.
Mochen would send Kaliyev the equivalent amount for each cheque via PayPal, as Kaliyev claimed his bank account was frozen because of his family’s financial situation. After the couple returned from a vacation in The Bahamas, Mochen checked her bank account balance and was shocked to find that it was $7,000 in the negative. Her bank then called her to inform her that the cheques purportedly issued by the Kaliyev family’s shipping company were fraudulent.
Mochen had previously given Kaliyev access to her own PayPal account, per the New York Post, as Kaliyev claimed there were issues with his own money-sending accounts. Mochen also alleges that Kaliyev opened a separate PayPal account using her personal information and a different phone number.
Kaliyev, 24, began dating Mochen in the summer of 2022, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings. According to the report, Mochen has provided a text message from Kaliyev’s friend and SKA St. Petersburg forward Igor Larionov II in which Larionov claims that Kings defenseman Drew Doughty told him that Kaliyev owes “around $50,000” to various Kings players for an accumulation of gambling debts, fines, fees, etc.
Kaliyev was drafted 33rd overall by Los Angeles in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. After three full seasons with the Kings, the Uzbekistan-born winger was claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers last season. He signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Senators this past offseason.
