The Ottawa Senators are expected to be placing goaltender Matt Murray on waivers Saturday.

The news was first reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman Friday night.

Murray, 27, was acquired by the Senators in Oct. 2020 from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2020 2nd round pick and Jonathan Gruden.

His time in Ottawa, however, has been far from ideal. In 33 games, Murray has posted a 10-18-1 record, a .892 save percentage, a 3.35 GAA and has saved -15.2 goals above average.

According to PuckPedia, Murray has two years remaining on a deal paying him an AAV of $6.25-million.
