Ryan Dzingel is returning to the Ottawa Senators

It’s time for another Ryan Dzingel era in Ottawa.

According to Frank Seravalli, the Senators are sending @Alex Galchenyuk and @Cedric Paquette to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Dzingel.

Dzingel was originally drafted by the Senators in the seventh round of the 2011 draft. He broke out with a 32-point season in 2016-17 and helped Ottawa reach the Eastern Conference Final as a checking forward.

The best season of Dzingel’s career came in 2018-19. He scored 22 goals and 22 assists in 57 games for the Senators and got traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Anthony Duclair and two second-round draft picks.

The following off-season, Dzingel inked a two-year deal with the Hurricanes worth $3,500,000 annually. He put up 33 points in 75 games as a member of the Hurricanes.

Going back the other way are Galchenyuk and Paquette, two players this Senators added this off-season.

Glachenyuk has just one point in eight games. The Hurricanes will be the sixth NHL club he’s played for in the last four seasons.

Paquette was a salary cap dump by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has just one point in nine games for Ottawa.

At a glance, this looks like a win for Ottawa. Neither Glachenyuk nor Paquette had been playing well for the Senators and if Dzingel returns to his 2018-19 form, the team will add another quality, veteran forward to their top-six.
