Murray, 27, spent last season with the New Jersey Devils and recorded 14 assists through 48 games played.
“Ryan is an effective two-way defenseman who can provide minutes and added puck movement to our back line,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President / General Manager Joe Sakic. “We like the experience he brings to our locker room, and we’re excited to see him fit in with our group.”
The Regina, Saskatchewan native has spent most of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the club that drafted him second overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the contract carries a $2 million cap hit.
