The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Department of Player Safety announced Tuesday that Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin has been fined $5,000 for high-sticking Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell.

According to the release, the fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement. The money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 12:58 of the third period when Dahlin and Lundell got tied up and Dahlin swung his stick into the face of Lundell. A scrum broke out as Panthers forward Jesper Boqvist came to the aid of Lundell. Dahlin was handed a two-minute minor for slashing and roughing.

The Panthers went on to score on the powerplay with Sam Bennett giving Florida a 4-2 lead.

Dahlin has tallied one goal and six points through 10 games so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

The 24-year-old signed an eight-year extension last October to remain in Buffalo for the long term, he was named captain in Sept. The Sabres originally selected Dahlin No. 1 overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. During the 2023-24 campaign, Dahlin set a career-high 20 goals and 39 assists for 59 points in 81 games.

Through six NHL seasons, Dahlin has 67 goals and 231 assists for 298 points and 332 penalty minutes in 446 career regular-season games. Dahlin is two points shy of cracking the 300-point milestone.

Buffalo will play the New York Islanders on Friday and the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in a set of back to back games.
