The International Olympic Committee (IOC) named Salt Lake City, Utah the host city for the 2034 Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

The IOC made the announcement as the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are set to get underway.

Ryan Smith, who purchased the Arizona Coyotes last spring and moved the club to Salt Lake City, where they will play as Utah HC in 2024-25, said this was an example of the state embracing momentum and “focus on creating the next big movement before it’s here.”

“The momentum happening in Utah is right in front of our eyes – and everyone can see it. Congratulations, Salt Lake City and the entire state of Utah on representing the USA in hosting the 2034 Olympic Winter Games,” Smith said on X.

Utah Sen. Mitt Romney (R), who was an integral part of Salt Lake City landing the 2002 Winter Olympics, offered his congratulations to the city hosting the event against over 30 years later.
