It’s the second time in less than three months that Olausson has been traded. In late July, the Colorado Avalanche sent the 22-year-old to the Sharks in exchange for Danil Gushchin. Before even getting a chance to play in San Jose, Olausson is on the move once again.
Olausson was originally taken by the Avalanche in the first round, 28th overall, of the 2021 NHL Draft. However, he never found his groove in the pro game. He made his NHL debut during the 2022-23 season, but that was the only game he played that year. After playing another game with the Avalanche the following year, he played twice for the big club during the 2024-25 season.
In four NHL games, Olausson has yet to register a point. He’s spent the majority of his pro career with the Avs’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. He’s managed to score 11 goals in each of his three seasons with the team, notching a career-high 26 points last year.
Olausson is heading into the final season of his entry-level contract. The deal carries a cap hit of $863,333. In 180 AHL games, both regular-season and playoffs, he has scored 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points.
Masters has yet to appear in an NHL game. Once a fourth-round pick by the Wild in the 2021 draft, he has spent the past two years in the minors, splitting time between the AHL’s Iowa Wild and the organization’s ECHL affiliate, the Iowa Heartlanders. Last season, the Edmonton native scored a goal and two assists for three points in 16 games with the Iowa Wild. In 27 games with the Heartlanders, he posted five goals and eight assists for 13 points.
Masters has played in 35 AHL games, scoring a goal and five assists for six points. In 66 ECHL contests, he has registered nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points.
