NHL training camps are open, and preseason schedules are underway. With that comes injury news and updates as clubs look to take stock of their rosters and figure out what their Opening Night lineups will look like.

According to a tweet from NHL.com correspondent Max Miller, San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky shared updates on two of his club’s veteran players.

Warsofsky told Miller that forward Colin White will be out “a couple of weeks” with an upper-body injury, while defenseman John Klingberg is day-to-day with an upper-body injury that he suffered during the team’s preseason opening contest on Sunday.

White, a 28-year-old Boston native who was selected in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, appeared in just three NHL regular season games with the Sharks last year. He did not record a point, nor did he find the scoresheet in 28 games split between the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins in 2023-24.

Throughout his career, White has posted 113 points in 323 appearances. White is signed to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $775,000 at the NHL level.

Klingberg, a 33-year-old Swede with over a decade of NHL experience to his name, was signed to a one-year, $4 million deal on July 1 to bring his puck-moving skillset to a team looking to add legitimacy to its blue line.

He played 11 regular season games and 19 postseason contests a year ago while with the Edmonton Oilers, putting up four points and skating to a plus-three rating as the Oilers lost in the Stanley Cup Final for the second season in a row.

Led by an exciting young core consisting of Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, Michael Misa and William Eklund, San Jose is looking to rise from the basement of the league and move toward being a competitive team on a nightly basis this season.

The Sharks will drop the puck on the season at home on October 9 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
