Sharks select Michael Misa No. 2 overall in 2025 NHL Draft

The San Jose Sharks selected center Michael Misa of the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit with the second overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft Friday night at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, snapping up the best pure scoring forward in the class.
Misa led the OHL with 134 points in 65 games this season, posting the league’s highest point total since Patrick Kane in 2007 and tying John Tavares for the most by a player younger than 18 this century. Misa’s 62 goals tied him for the third most in league history by a draft-eligible player. He reached 50 goals in 50 games, becoming the second-fastest OHL player this century to hit the mark, bested only by Kane.
Not surprisingly, Misa earned the Red Tilson Trophy as the OHL’s top player in 2024-25. He didn’t get to show much in the postseason, however; Saginaw was eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs in five games, and Misa missed the deciding Game 5 with an injury later revealed to be minor back muscle tightness, which kept him out of the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship as well.
Misa absolutely tore up major junior this year and was fulfilling a prophecy set years ago. Already a dominant player by his early teens, he’s been on the NHL Draft radar for years, and in 2022, he became the sixth OHL player to earn exceptional status and compete in the league as an underage. After Misa had piled up 20 points in just seven games at the OHL Cup that year, breaking Connor McDavid’s record, the exceptional status was inevitable.
Misa, now 18, is listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds. He blends speed, hands and shooting ability and was rated by Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis as the No. 2 prospect in the 2025 class. Ellis considers Misa easily the best all-around scorer available, but wonders if Misa will ultimately settle in as a winger rather than a center at the NHL level.
Michael’s brother, center Luke Misa, was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2024’s fifth round, 150th overall.
