Sharks place Nick Leddy on injured reserve; Patrick Giles called up

A veteran in the Bay Area is out of action.
On Tuesday, the San Jose Sharks announced that defenseman Nick Leddy has been placed on injured reserve. In response, the team has called up forward Patrick Giles from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
The #SJSharks have recalled F Patrick Giles from the @sjbarracuda.
In a corresponding move, D Nick Leddy has been placed on injured reserve.
Leddy suffered an upper-body injury during the Sharks’ 6-5 overtime win over the New York Rangers last Thursday. The 34-year-old has sat out the last two games, during which San Jose has lost to the New Jersey Devils and beaten the Minnesota Wild in overtime.
With Leddy’s placement on IR presumably dating back to his injury, he could return to action as soon as this coming Saturday, when the Sharks host the Colorado Avalanche. However, that means the Minnesota native will be out of commission for the team’s rematch with the Devils on Thursday. Leddy was seen on the ice on Tuesday, meaning he might be in the lineup sooner rather than later.
In seven games so far, Leddy has posted two assists, with a plus/minus of -4.
Giles has spent the first month of the season with the Barracuda, having scored a goal and an assist in four games. Last season, with both the Sharks and Florida Panthers, the 25-year-old played in 17 games, scoring his first NHL goal with San Jose on March 11 against the Nashville Predators.
A couple of other roster notes for the Sharks. Defender John Klingberg and forward Jeff Skinner are expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Kings. Klingberg has been out of the lineup since suffering a lower-body injury earlier this month, missing the last six games. Skinner was a healthy scratch in Sunday’s win over Minnesota.
