A minor-league veteran is staying in Northern California for a couple of more years.
On Tuesday, San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier announced that the team has re-signed forward Patrick Giles to a two-year, two-way contract extension. The deal, set to kick in next season, will carry an NHL AAV of $875,000 through the 2027-28 season, according to PuckPedia.

Giles’ minor-league salary for the 2026-27 campaign will be $250,000, with a guaranteed salary of $325,000, while he’ll have an American Hockey League cap hit of $300,000 in year two, with $375,000 guaranteed.
The Chevy Chase, Md. native is at the end of his current two-year contract, which he signed with the Florida Panthers in June 2024. That deal has an NHL cap hit of $775,000, with a minor-league AAV of $125,000.
Giles is coming off his first full season with the Sharks organization. He was acquired by San Jose at last year’s trade deadline from the Panthers in exchange for Vitek Vanecek. This year, he appeared in just three games for the Sharks, posting an assist in his last game back on Nov. 2 against the Detroit Red Wings. He had a plus/minus of +1 while averaging just under nine minutes of ice time.
The 26-year-old spent most of the 2025-26 season with the Sharks’ primary affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. In 67 games, he potted 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. He failed to score a point in the Calder Cup Playoffs, as the Barracuda were swept by the Henderson Silver Knights in the first round.
Across the past two seasons, Giles has appeared in 20 NHL games, 11 of which were with the Sharks, scoring a goal and an assist. In 262 regular-season AHL games, he has registered 35 goals and 37 assists for 72 points, with another five points in 25 postseason contests.
