Sharks sign Gabriel Carriere to one-year contract extension

The San Jose Sharks announced Sunday that the club has signed goaltender Gabriel Carriere to a one-year, two-way contract extension.
Through 22 appearances last season with the AHL affiliated San Jose Barracuda, the 24-year-old Ottawa native put together a 10-9-3 record alongside an .894 save percentage, 3.06 goals-against average, plus a pair of shutouts. Carriere also saw 25 showings with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder in which he went 14-9-2 with a .922 save percentage, 2.60 goals-against average, and three shutouts.
In all, through part of two seasons at the AHL level, Carriere has come up with an 11-9-3 record with an .891 save percentage, 3.10 goals-against average, and two shutouts.
A graduate of the NCAA’s Vermont Catamounts, Carriere played four seasons in the collegiate ranks from 2020-24. In his final season in 2023-24, the 6-foot-2 goaltender went 13-18-3 with a .906 save percentage and 2.77 goals-against average. In all, through his time with the Catamounts, Carriere was 28-50-8 with a .908 save percentage, 2.75 goals-against average, and four shutouts.
Carriere also saw a single season with the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks in 2019-20 in which he posted a 21-8-2 showing coupled with a .905 save percentage, 2.57 goals-against average, and two shutouts.
In March, Carriere signed with the Sharks as an undrafted free agent.
With Sunday’s signing, Carriere becomes one of two goaltenders under contract with the Sharks for the coming campaign alongside expected starter Yaroslav Askarov. San Jose also has pending unrestricted free agent netminder Alexandar Georgiev as well as soon-to-be restricted free agent Georgii Romanov. Goaltenders Christian Kirsch, Yaroslav Korostelyov, and 2025 first-round selection Joshua Ravensbergen remain on the Sharks’ reserve list.
The Sharks closed out the 2024-25 campaign at the bottom of the NHL standings, finishing with a 20-50-12 record and 52 points, marking the sixth-straight season in which the club failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
