Smith, who was drafted fourth overall by San Jose in the 2023 Draft, has been enjoying an impressive second season in the NHL. With 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 33 games, the Boston native has combined with Macklin Celebrini to form one of the league’s most exciting young forward tandems.
Kurashev suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday’s game against the Penguins. The 26-year old signed a one-year, $1.2 million deal with San Jose this past offseason after five years with the Chicago Blackhawks. In 31 games, he has six goals and nine assists for 15 points.
Chernyshov is set to make his NHL debut, which will generate excitement within the Sharks’ fanbase. The Russian national was drafted with the first pick of the second round (33rd overall) by San Jose in the 2024 Draft. In 25 AHL games this season, he has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points. Last season, with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, Chernyshov had a whopping 19 goals and 36 assists for 55 points in just 23 games played.
Cardwell, meanwhile, already logged a four-game stretch with the Sharks earlier this season, during which he notched one goal. In 14 AHL games this season, the 2021 fourth-round pick has three goals and six assists for nine points.
The Sharks will kick off a three-game homestand on Tuesday when they host the Calgary Flames, before welcoming the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
