Schremp on Waivers, Isles to Claim?
TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that the New York Islanders are putting in a waiver claim on Rob Schremp in an attempt to acquire one of the more dynamic players in the game. Schremp was a premier minor league talent, drafted 25th overall in 2004 but has never cracked the Oilers’ NHL roster. Schremp could see more NHL playing time with the Isles if his oft-criticized “lack of competitive spirit” doesn’t get in the way. If you are thinking of taking a flier on Schremp in late rounds or off the waiver wire, wait for production first – there are many other more deserving late round choices that don’t play on the Islanders.
The Islanders have the top waiver priority because they finished last place last season.
Why was Schremp cut? Pat Quinn was looking for more physical players on the NHL roster and brought in a load of NHL-worthy forwards that more fit his mold.
