Seattle Kraken claim goaltender Magnus Hellberg on waivers

He’s back!
The Seattle Kraken have re-claimed Magnus Hellberg on waivers from Ottawa, returning to the team that originally signed him in July.
The Kraken put Hellberg on waivers in October, with the Senators claiming him to start the season. He filled a crucial role in Ottawa’s goalie depth chart after Cam Talbot started the season on injured reserve, winning his season debut Oct. 24 against Dallas.
Kraken starting goaltender Philipp Grubauer is currently week-to-week with an injury, leaving the team to go with Martin Jones and Joey Daccord in recent weeks. Hellberg should be able to slot in as backup, allowing Daccord to return to the AHL.
Hellberg has a perfect 3-0-0 record, winning all three games with different teams. He beat Pittsburgh in his first NHL start in 2017 while with the New York Rangers before winning again with the Red Wings at the end of 2021-22.
Hellberg, 31, represented Sweden at the past two Olympic Games and is a two-time KHL all-star. He helped Sweden win gold at the 2018 World Championship and had a perfect record in four games at last year’s tournament. Hellberg was a second-round pick by Nashville in 2011 and spent the first three years of his North American career in the Predators’ system before joining the Rangers in 2015-16.
Hellberg might be most known for his incredible goalie pad setups, though. He has integrated the team’s logo on his past three NHL stops, including his wicked Kraken look during the pre-season. Let’s hope he held on to them, because they were simply stunning.
