The Seattle Kraken will without their starting goaltender for at least the next couple of games.

The team announced on Saturday that goalie Joey Daccord did not travel with the team for their two-game road trip and is staying in Seattle to be evaluated for an upper-body injury.

It’s not clear when Daccord might’ve gotten hurt. The Boston native was pulled from Wednesday’s 6-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks in the third period after giving up five goals on 20 shots, but there was no indication of physical injury.

Without Daccord, it’s expected that Philipp Grubauer will get the nod in Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

The Kraken wil then play the Dallas Stars on Sunday, so there’s a decent chance Matt Murray will start on the second night of the back-to-back.

Daccord has started 11 games for the Kraken this season, posting a 6-2-3 record with a .900 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average.

The former Ottawa Senator was selected by Seattle in their 2021 expansion draft. After spending the majority of his first two years in the Kraken’s organization with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers and Coachella Valley Firebirds, Daccord took over as Seattle’s primary goaltender in 2023-24. That season, the Arizona State product started 46 games for the Kraken, going 19-18-11 with a .916 SV% and a 2.46 GAA. Last season, Daccord started 55 games, sporting a 27-23-5 record with a .906 SV% and a 2.75 GAA.

This season, Grubauer and Murray have each started and lost one game. Grubauer was Seattle’s main backup last season, starting 26 games and putting up a 8-17-1 record with a .875 SV% and a 3.48 GAA.

The Kraken have gotten off to a decent start this season, having earned 16 points in 13 games which puts them three points back of first place in the Pacific Division.
