A couple of familiar names are heading to Emerald City.

On Thursday, Seattle Kraken general manager Jason Botterill announced that the team has hired Patrik Allvin as assistant general manager and Pascal Vincent as assistant coach.

Allvin became available after he was let go as general manager of the Vancouver Canucks. While he experienced some success in his short time with the club, including leading the club to a Pacific Division title in 2023-24 and being named a finalist for the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award, the Canucks have floundered under him and former president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford. This past season, the team finished dead last in the NHL, leading to Rutherford’s parting and Allvin’s dismissal.

Yet, Botterill believes Allvin can be a great voice in the front office. The two worked together in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization when Botterill was AGM and Allvin was director of amateur scouting.

“Patrik is an excellent communicator in a team environment,” Botterill said in a release. “He understands the importance of structure and a process in making decisions. You look at his experience evaluating talent in North America, Europe, amateur, pro, he’s had a lot of different titles over his career. He had success in Pittsburgh, winning three Stanley Cups.”

Vincent, who is filling the hole left behind after Jessica Campbell stepped away from the Kraken, returns to the NHL after spending the past two seasons as head coach of the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens‘ American Hockey League affiliate. He led the Rocket to consecutive appearances in the North Division Finals, losing both times. He spent three seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2021 to 2024, infamously being promoted to head coach after Mike Babcock resigned prior to the 2023-24 campaign. He led the Blue Jackets to a 27-43-12 record before being let go after the season. Vincent was also an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets for the first five seasons after the franchise relocated from Atlanta.
