The Seattle Kraken are going to be without talented forward Jared McCann once again, as the team announced on Friday that McCann will be out for three weeks with a lower-body injury.

McCann suffered the injury on Wednesday night in the team’s 3-2 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The 29-year-old veteran scored a goal, his fifth of the season, during the contest while firing three shots and recording 16:39 of time on ice.

In addition to his five goals, McCann has dished out three assists for a total of eight points in 11 games played. McCann previously missed 17 games after getting hurt ton October 18, and he had just made his return to the lineup on November 26.

Another absence for the No. 24 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft is a brutal blow for Seattle, a team that desperately needs his scoring prowess in the lineup.

The Kraken are dead last in the NHL in goals scored in the NHL with 70 this year, and while they have played the fewest games of any team in the league with 28, they’re tied with the Calgary Flames for last in the NHL with 2.50 goals per game.

McCann is far and away the leading goalscorer in the brief history of Seattle’s franchise with 123 goals. The next closest is Jaden Schwartz at 76.

Despite their scoring woes, the Kraken have managed to stay afloat in the standings, as their 12-10-6 record is good enough to have them fifth in the Pacific Division by points percentage. Their .536 mark would also have them currently holding the Western Conference’s second wild card spot.

Seattle is back in action on Friday night for a road game against the Utah Mammoth. They’ll then return hom eto take on the Buffalo Sabres at Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday night.
