Kraken’s Joey Daccord activated off injured reserve; Matt Murray out six weeks

The Seattle Kraken are getting their starting goaltender back from injury while losing one of their depth options between the pipes for the time being.
The team announced on Tuesday that Joey Daccord is being activated from injured reserve, while Matt Murray will miss an estimate of six weeks with a lower-body injury.
The 29-year-old Daccord has missed the team’s last five games with an upper-body injury. Before he went out, he had made 11 starts in which he went 6-2-3 with a .900 save percentage, a 2.83 goals against average and one shutout.
Daccord has quietly grown into one of the better starting goaltenders the NHL has to offer since joining Seattle. In 2023-24, he made 50 starts while posting a .916 SV% and 2.46 GAA, and while his stats dipped a bit last year, they were still strong with a .906 SV% and 2.73 GAA in a heavier workload of 57 starts.
Murray performed quite well in relief of Daccord, as he turned aside shots at a .922 clip while holding opponents to a 2.21 GAA. The two-time Stanley Cup champion exited the team’s game against San Jose on Saturday night with the injury.
With Daccord back and Murray out, Philipp Grubauer will continue to serve as the club’s backup. The German netminder owns a .903 SV% in his five outings to start the year, a welcomed early sign of improvement from the .875 mark he posted last season.
The Kraken will waste no time getting Daccord back into action, as he was the first goalie off the ice at the team’s morning skate on Tuesday ahead of the club’s tilt against the Detroit Red Wings in the Motor City.
Seattle owns a 9-4-5 record that is good enough to position them in third place in the Pacific Division, just two points behind the division-leading Ducks with a game in hand.
