The Seattle Kraken provided an update on a number of players Thursday.

Head coach Lane Lambert told reporters that forward Kaapo Kakko is still being evaluated by the team’s medical staff and that he will see a specialist on Friday.

Lambert also said that forwards Chandler Stephenson and Jared McCann, as well as defenseman Brandon Montour are considered day-to-day.

Kakko was injured after taking a slash from Beau Akey during the Kraken’s preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night.

Kakko, 24, was traded to the Kraken by the New York Rangers last December. In 49 games with Seattle, the 2019 No. 2 overall pick scored 10 goals and recorded 20 assists for 30 points. In 79 total regular-season games in 2024-25, Kakko, a native of Turku, Finland, scored 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points.

Stephenson, 31, joined the Kraken ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, recording 13 goals and 38 assists for 51 points in 78 regular-season games. The Saskatoon, Sask., native has won two Stanley Cup championships, one with the Washington Capitals and one with the Vegas Golden Knights.

McCann, 29, is entering his fifth season with the Kraken. Last year, the Stratford, Ont., native scored 22 goals and added 39 assists for 61 points. He recorded a career-high 40 goals and 70 points in 2022-23.

As for Montour, the 31-year-old blueliner finished with 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points in his first season with Seattle. He won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024.
