Kraken’s Mackie Samoskevich out day-to-day with upper-body injury
Seattle Kraken forward Mackie Samoskevich is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the club announced Saturday morning.
The Kraken also announced that Samoskevich will not play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Vancouver Canucks. Saturday is the final day of the 2026 NHL preseason before the 2026-27 regular season begins on Sept. 29.
Samoskevich, 23, skated in Seattle’s 4-3 shootout win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday, posting a plus-2 rating despite recording no points in 18:30 of ice time. The 5’11” winger joined the Kraken in June via a trade from the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers originally selected Samoskevich in the first round (No. 24 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. The Newtown, Conn. product spent two full seasons with the USHL’s Chicago Steel before being drafted, after which point he headed to the University of Michigan.
Samoskevich scored 30 goals and 62 points in 79 games over his two seasons with the Wolverines before turning pro with the Panthers in 2023. He appeared in his first seven NHL games with Florida in the 2023-24 season but did not feature in the team’s successful Stanley Cup run; however, the following year, Samoskevich got his name engraved on the trophy after collecting 15 goals and 32 points in 76 games across the regular season and playoffs.
In 2025-26, the final year of his entry-level contract, Samoskevich racked up 10 goals and 32 points in 77 games with the Panthers. Faced with salary cap constraints after the season, the Panthers opted to trade Samoskevich to Seattle in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick (subsequently flipped to the Ottawa Senators in the Brady Tkachuk trade) and a conditional 2027 second-round pick. Samoskevich subsequently signed a three-year contract with Seattle worth $3.85 million per season.
In 156 career NHL games over parts of three seasons with the Panthers, Samoskevich has collected 27 goals and 63 points; he’s added one assist in four playoff contests. It remains to be seen whether Samoskevich will be ready to go in time for Seattle’s 2026-27 season opener, which is scheduled for Oct. 1 in Calgary.
