Kraken’s Marchment out day-to-day with injury

The Seattle Kraken are playing without veteran winger Mason Marchment against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, and the team announced just before puck drop that he is out on a day-to-day basis with a lower-body injury.
Marchment, a 30-year-old from Ontario, was acquired from the Dallas Stars in the offseason as the Stars looked to shed salary while the Kraken aimed to add size and experience to their forward group.
Playing on the final year of a four-year contract that carries a $4.5 million salary cap hit, Marchment has a goal and three assists for four points in his first six games with Seattle. He’s skated an average of 15:15 per game in a role similar to the one he played in Dallas in the middle six.
If Marchment suffered the lower-body injury in the team’s most recent game on Monday night in Philadelphia, it did not force him out of the contest early. He played 16:11 that night and took a shift more than a minute in length within the last three minutes of the third period.
Injuries are starting to pile up for the Kraken, who have been without winger Kaapo Kakko (hand) and center Frederick Gaudreau (upper-body), both of whom are on injured reserve. Jared McCann missed Monday night’s game with a lower-body injury. He was also dubbed day-to-day by the team, and he did not return to the lineup Tuesday night.
Ben Meyers drew into the lineup for the Washington game after being recalled from the AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds earlier Tuesday.
Seattle owns a 3-1-2 record pending the result of Tuesday’s game in Washington after suffering its first regulation loss of the season by a 5-2 margin agains the Flyers. The Kraken are in the midst of a lengthy road trip that began on October 14 and will come to an end on Thursday night in Winnipeg.
