The Seattle Kraken have selected right winger Casey Mutryn with the No. 38 overall selection of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Mutryn was projected to be selected around the 37th or 38th overall on average across the main draft rankings, ranging from 21st to 55th. He was also ranked 24th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis projected him to go above consensus at 29th overall.

Ellis had this to say about Mutryn in his most recent draft rankings:

“Mutryn was one of my favorite American-born prospects this season. I like his physicality and work ethic and think that could allow him to be a decent third-liner. He’s smart, battles hard and has the ability to find chemistry with just about everyone. Although I don’t think his ceiling is that high, I feel confident Mutryn will be an NHLer. Most likely as a third- or fourth-liner who can grind it out and win most of his battles, but he’ll be a good one at that. He’s the type of guy every team wants come playoff time. While the ceiling isn’t high, the floor definitely is.

Mutryn spent the majority of his 2025-26 season with the US National U-18 Team, where he had 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points in 62 games. His performance placed him fifth on the team in goals and points, and sixth in assists.

Mutryn also played with the USNTDP Juniors in the United States Hockey League, where he had seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 25 games as the program finished with the second-worst record in the USHL at 17-40-3-2. The Norwell, Massachusetts product finished 10th on the team in scoring and was tied for 11th in points per game.

Mutryn was also the captain for the United States for the U18 World Championships, where he had two goals and three assists for five points in five games. The United States ultimately lost in the quarterfinals to Latvia.

Mutryn is committed to Boston College for the 2027-28 season.
