Hayden, 27, was selected in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks after a solid campaign in the U.S. National Team Development Program. After his draft, he spent four years at the University of Yale, was captain of the team in his final season and was even named to the NCAA All-Ivy Team.

The 6-foot-3, 223-pound forward had spent last season with the Buffalo Sabres where he registered four points and 84 penalty minutes in 55 games. Those 84 PIM include six fighting majors. Hayden’s NHL career has also seen stops in New Jersey and Arizona.

The Kraken continue to add players via free agency. Recently they also signed former Colorado Avalanche top-six forward and Stanley Cup champion Andre Burakovsky to a five-year deal and veteran defender Justin Schultz to a two-year contract.
