A promising young scorer has inked his first NHL deal.

On Friday, the Seattle Kraken announced that the team has signed forward Julius Miettinen to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries an AAV of $975,000.

While Miettinen theoretically could join the Kraken for the beginning of the 2025-26 season, he will remain with his junior team, the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.

Miettinen was taken by the Kraken in the second round, 40th overall, of the 2024 NHL Draft. It came after a very impressive rookie campaign with the Silvertips, in which the Helsinki, Finland native scored 31 goals and 36 assists for 67 points, finishing fourth on the team in scoring. Due to international competition, Miettinen played in just 36 games with Everett in the 2024-25 season, but managed to stay at a point-per-game pace, scoring 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points.

He’s off to another strong start this season, already scoring two goals and two assists through two games for the Silvertips, potting three points in the team’s season opener against the Wenatchee Wild on Sept. 27.

In 104 WHL regular-season contests, the 19-year-old has scored 44 goals and 66 assists for 110 points, notching 13 points in 22 playoff games as well.

Internationally, Miettinen has represented Finland in various events. He helped his team take home the bronze medal at the 2022 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, as well as taking home the silver last January at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing over 200 pounds, Miettinen has the potential to be an effective power forward. Utilizing his size, he creates opportunities by being physical and using his strong skating abilities.
