Sharks re-sign Thomas Bordeleau to one-year, two-way contract

A young center is extending his time with in the Golden State.

On Thursday, the San Jose Sharks re-signed forward Thomas Bordeleau to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will carry an $874,125 cap hit for the 2024-25 season, with an $80,000 salary in the minor leagues.

Bordeleau is coming off the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract, which saw the center have an AAV of $925,000. He was originally taken by the Sharks in the second round, 38th overall, in the 2020 NHL Draft.

After two years of being a standout at the University of Michigan, the Houston, Texas native signed his ELC with the Sharks, playing eight games near the end of the 2021-22 season. In his two full seasons with the franchise, Bordeleau has split time between the Sharks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. His best season came in 2022-23, when he notched 22 goals and 19 assists in 65 games with the Barrcuda. That season, he was named to the Pacific Division All-Star Team.

This past year, Bordeleau saw an increase in playing time with the Sharks. The 22-year-old appearaed in 27 games, scoring six goals and 11 points, scoring his first NHL goal on Oct. 14 against the Colorado Avalanche. He saw some extended time on special teams, picking up four power-play goals, with three assists coming on the man advantage.

In 43 NHL games, he has scored six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. In 102 games in the AHL, Bordeleau has scored 33 goals and 36 assists for 69 points.

A member of the 2021 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Bordeleau has also played for his country on a few occasions. He played for the United States at the 2018 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, before playing at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship.
