Horcoff attended Michigan State University and went on to play 15 seasons in the NHL, 12 of which came with the Edmonton Oilers. He played in 1,008 games, scoring 186 goals and 511 points. Horcoff also served as captain of the Oilers for three seasons.
After retiring from his playing career in 2016, Horcoff was hired by Ken Holland to be the Red Wings’ director of player development. Horcoff maintained that role after Holland left the organization to join the Oilers and was replaced by Yzerman.
“Shawn has a tremendous work ethic and has done a great job developing the prospects within our organization, helping them prepare for the next steps in their careers,” Yzerman said. “The relationships he’s formed within the organization – and throughout the hockey community – make him a valuable asset to our future both in Detroit and Grand Rapids, and I look forward to continuing working alongside him.”
