Should the Red Wings already be worried about John Gibson?

The Detroit Red Wings took a major swing in the off-season to try to fix a longstanding issue between the pipes by acquiring veteran John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks.
Gibson, a once-prodigious prospect who was developed into an effective starter for over a decade, had not been at his best or healthiest the past several years before this one, though many chalked that up to a poor defensive environment in front of him with the Ducks.
His debut in Detroit did not go as planned, as he allowed 5 goals on 13 shots in a season-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens. He hasn’t gotten the net since, as the Red Wings have rattled off three straight victories on the shoulders of Cam Talbot.
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed whether or not Talbot has fully taken over the starting job and whether just one game is enough to cause concern over what the team can expect from Gibson moving forward.
Tyler Yaremchuk: I have not been super high on the Detroit Red Wings, but they lose their first game of the year, John Gibson gets yanked. He was obviously one of their big offseason adds… and we’re in week two of the season and he’s lost the starting job. The Wings have won three in a row, but it’s been Cam Talbot between the pipes for every single one of those wins. So we’ll call it our first goalie controversy of the year.
Carter Hutton: I don’t think this is a big concern for me. Cam Talbot has been a very good goalie for a very long time in the NHL, but I’m not worried about John Gibson. Gibson is the 32-year-old to Cam Talbot’s 38. John Gibson’s played 507 games in the league. He’s a sneaky guy at 32, he’s been around for such a long time. He’s going to be able to come back, and they’re going to need both of these guys down the stretch.
