3/10/12: After Sidney Crosby announced he was cleared for contact, many pundits indicated he will play on Sunday. However, Crosby will not face the Bruins according to Seth Rorabaugh of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, via Twitter. His next opportunity to play is next Thursday against the New York Rangers. Furthermore, if the Pens manage to win on Sunday, and the Rangers continue to lose, they could tie the Rangers for the division title.

3/6/12: Sidney Crosby is cleared for contact according to the man himself. In his media session this afternoon, the superstar center announced that he has been symptom free for a few days now and will start ramping up his play during practice. And while he remains out indefinitely, he could return within the next week or two if all goes according to plan. Those of you who held Crosby on their rosters all season get a nice gift for the stretch run / fantasy hockey playoffs.

2/1/12: After a whole day of suspense, the Pittsburgh Penguins finally released a statement on Sidney Crosby. Following yet another consultation from a specialist, it was determined that the team captain is, in fact, suffering from a ‘soft-tissue injury of the neck’. However, his neck is not broken.

Crosby still has no timetable for his return but is expected to return when the symptoms subside. For the team’s official release, click here.

Sidney Crosby went back on the ice this morning, skating with his fellow injured Pens according to the team’s official site. According to Dave Molinari of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, via Twitter, Crosby’s workout lasted roughly 45 minutes. However, the captain should not be expected to get back into the lineup any time soon. Considering the Pens have yet to rush his recovery, as much should be expected.

1/20/12: Since Crosby traveled to Atlanta, their has been very little news reported on his status. However, TSN’s Darren Dreger reported this morning, via Twitter, that Crosby is doing quite well under a watchful eye. Furthermore, the word progress was used which should be a glimmer of hope for those teased fantasy hockey owners.

Since our last update, things only slightly changed.

Crosby was back on the ice; albeit not participating in drills. The Pens decided to poke fun at the media over his captaincy and reinforce the notion that he would be the team’s captain until he retires. However, number 87 is far from out of the woods.

Shelly Anderson of The Post-Gazette reported, via Twitter, that Crosby would meet with a concussion specialist this week. Apparently Sidney is still having balance and motion trouble which should be very concerning. Don’t expect Sid to hit the ice until the two meet.

UPDATE 12/28/11: We would change the title of this thread but it still summarizes our thoughts two weeks later. Coach Dan Blysma informed Sam Kasan of PittsburghPenguins.com that Crosby still has symptoms which has limited him to light workouts. In other words, Crosby Watch remains at status quo.

UPDATE 12/12/11: The title basically says it all, Sidney the Kid will once again be sidelined with post-concussion syndrome after taking an elbow to the head from Boston Bruins center David Krejci. The Penguins continue to explain that his absence is simply precautionary but Josh Rimer of XM Home Ice seems to believe he may also have a  knee injury. Let’s hear from Crosby himself, courtesy of PittsburghPenguins.com:

Check back for another update.

UPDATE 12/10/11: When questioned by team media, coach Dan Blysma was noncommittal on Sidney Crosby’s expected Tuesday return according to Dave Molinari of The Post-Gazette, via Twitter. The team’s captain experienced a headache following a ‘big hit’ during his last game and the team continues to play it safe with their superstar. Right now we are in Crosby watch 2.0 but we also could be watching Eric Lindros 2.0. Expect a further update as the news comes in.

ORIGINAL POST FROM 12/7/10: Just eight games into his season, Sidney Crosby is once again sidelined. In this instance, Sid the Kid will miss time for precautionary reasons related to his infamous concussion. Considering he played it safe all season, it makes sense that he continues to do so despite playing. However, missing games could be a strong indication he felt something bad in Boston and is actually unable to play.

Below is the official press release from the team:

Sidney Crosby did not accompany the Pittsburgh Penguins on their road trip to Philadelphia today and will sit out the next two games as a precaution.

“Sidney took a hard hit during our game against Boston Monday night and wasn’t feeling 100 percent,” Penguins General Manager Ray Shero said. “He saw Dr. Micky Collins of UPMC today and took an ImPACT test, which showed no problems. However, we all think it’s best that he sits out the next two games as a precaution.”

Crosby has 12 points in eight games since returning from a concussion.
The Penguins play at Philadelphia Thursday and at the New York Islanders Saturday.

Feel free to cry about it in the comments…
