Two legends of their respective sports will be connected forever, though for different talents.

On Wednesday night, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored the 900th goal of his NHL career, obviously becoming the first player in NHL history to hit the mark.

To commemorate the occasion, the Capitals released a video of skateboard legend Tony Hawk congratulating Ovechkin on the impressive achievement and welcoming him to the ‘900 Club.’

Hawk mentioned how he knows a thing or two about the No. 900. At the 1999 Summer X Games, the Birdman became the first skateboarder ever to pull off The 900 (a trick that sees a person do 2.5 spins in the air).

Along with giving props to the Russian star for being the all-time goal-scoring leader in league history, Hawk mentioned that there will be many goals to come. However, if Ovechkin were to ever reach the absurd total of 1,080 goals, he’d have to get ahold of fellow skateboard star Tom Schaar, who became the first person to land a 1080 on a skateboard…at the age of 12.

Ovechkin achieved the mark in the second period against the St. Louis Blues. It was just his third goal of the season and first in five games as he struggled to finally break through.

The 40-year-old will not only go down as the most prolific goal scorer in the game’s history, but simply as one of the greatest of all time. He has hit the 50-goal mark nine times, taking home the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy a record nine times. The three-time Hart Trophy winner also won the Art Ross Trophy during the 2007-08 season when Ovi delivered a career-high 112 points.

When helping the Capitals capture the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2018, Ovechkin was also named the Conn Smythe Trophy.
