Something has to give for the Penguins – and soon

Things are not looking good in the Steel City.
After getting lambasted by the Dallas Stars, 7-1, on Monday night, allowing six goals on 12 shots in the first period, the Pittsburgh Penguins have lost three of their last four games, continuing their downward spiral down the Metropolitan Division standings.
Thanks to inconsistent scoring and suspect play between the pipes, the Penguins are showing they don’t have the tools to end their playoff drought unless they turn things around.
Currently, Pittsburgh is tied with the Philadelphia Flyers for sixth in the Metro in points (14), even though the team has the worst winning percentage in the division (.412).
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Colby Cohen and Tyler Yaremchuk explain what has gone wrong with the Pens and how things have to change quickly if they want to turn around their season.
Colby Cohen: Something really does have to give…You got to wonder, right? [Mike Sullivan] brought in David Quinn this year, so he’s a first-time assistant coach with this staff. [Quinn] does have head coaching experience, he is a Boston guy as well. He’s well capable of being a guy if they needed him to. I don’t really see them going out and going after Joel Quenneville, maybe it’s Todd McLellan, I don’t know.
My bigger issue here is Kyle Dubas. What is he doing with this team? What is the direction? He should’ve made some hard decisions and he didn’t. I don’t know if they were his decisions or ownership’s decisions but, to me, that’s the guy you really got to point fingers to. We know Mike Sullivan can coach, we already know that. He’s one of the best there is and he won’t be out of work [long] if things end in Pittsburgh…there’s a reason he’s Team USA’s coach. To me, I’m looking at roster construction, and you got major problems.
