Blues acquire Akil Thomas from Kings in exchange for Nikita Alexandrov

The St. Louis Blues acquired forward Akil Thomas from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward Nikita Alexandrov, the team announced Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Thomas had four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 19 games with the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. His best season came in 2023-24, where he recorded 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points in 64 games.

Through 176 career AHL games, the Toronto native has 50 goals and 56 assists for 106 points.

Taken in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Thomas spent four seasons in the OHL with the Niagara IceDogs and Peterborough Petes. He scored 105 goals and 210 assists for 315 points in 241 career games. During that time, Thomas had three 80-plus point seasons, including a 102-point campaign in 2018-19 with the IceDogs.

As for Alexandrov, he has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 18 games with the Blues’ minor-league affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. Last season, the 25-year-old had 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points in 48 AHL games.

The Burgwedel, Germany native has 61 goals and 82 assists for 143 points in 188 career AHL games. Alexandrov has also played in 51 career NHL games, where he’s scored three goals and six assists for nine points.

Alexandrov, a 2019 second-round pick for the Blues, spent three seasons in the QMJHL with the Charlottetown Islanders. In 172 career games, he scored 63 goals and 83 assists for 146 points.

The Blues are 9-11-7 with 25 points through 27 games this season, which puts them seventh in the Central Division.

Meanwhile, the Kings are 12-6-7 with 31 points, second in the Pacific Division.
