It was all good feelings for the St. Louis Blues after last season. Despite being seven points out of a Wild Card spot in early February, the team went on stunning late-season run, earning points in 26 of their final 30 games to earn a playoff berth. Then, they gave the Presidents’ Trophy winning Winnipeg Jets all they could handle in the first round, losing dramatically in overtime of Game 7.

This season, however, the Blues have already burned through much of that good will. Jim Montgomery’s team has won just three of its first ten games, and sit alone at the bottom of the Central Division with seven points. Goaltender Jordan Binnington has gotten off to a rough start as well, with just a 2-4-1 record to go along with a 3.27 goals against average and a .863 save percentage.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed the Blues’ concerning start, and what their problem areas have been so far.

Yaremchuk: “What fan base should be more concerned heading into November, St. Louis or Minnesota?”

Hutton: “I think for me it’s St. Louis. I just think the fact of where they’re at and the goalie struggles with Joel Hofer. How many minutes are you going to play Jordan Binnington? Where is he gonna be at? And then the lack of production up front, when you talk about Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou and these guys that are supposed to be their budding superstars. They have a little bit of an aging group with Buchnevich and Schenn. I think St. Louis is a little more worrisome because for so many years you’ve relied on great, consistent goaltending and back-up goaltending and you’re not getting it right now. In a compressed season when you have the Olympics and you’re going to send a lot of guys to the Olympics, it’s a little more worrisome for me.”
