During the game in which the Minnesota Wild ended up defeating the Blues by an 8-5 score, things got a little out of hand roughly halfway through the game.

As Wild forward Ryan Hartman put the finishing touch on the go-ahead goal to give the Wild the lead in the game, he nudged Binnington’s left pad as he skated by. The Blues’ goalie immediately took exception to that and spoiled Hartman’s goal celebration with some rough and tumble.

During the ensuing scramble Binnington ended up losing his helmet and falling to the ground when the referee prevented him from getting too involved in the scuffle. The players who were involved in the net-front scuffle right after the goal started calming down until things got out of hand with the Blues goaltender.

The referee had to use all of his strength to prevent Binnington from escalating the event any further and as they glided down the ice together, Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury decided to get involved. Fleury skated across the ice to meet Binnington in the neutral zone but was stopped by a couple of referees getting in the way of them.

Binnington has a 22-24-5 record this year as the Blues’ starting goalie. He has a 3.39 GAA and .892 SV% with two shutouts. This year has been a worse version of last season’s struggling Binnington. He still has four years left on his contract paying him an AAV of $6 million annually.

In his career, Binnington has a 112-70-25 record with a 2.78 GAA and .906 SV% through 214 NHL games. This story will be updated when the verdict is out from the hearing.
