There will be a noticeable difference in the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

When appearing on 101 ESPN in St. Louis, Blues TV color analyst Joe Vitale stated that forward Jordan Kyrou is expected to be a healthy scratch against the Buffalo Sabres.

Vitale reportedly didn’t go into details about Kyrou’s absence from the lineup against the lowly Sabres. The 27-year-old has been one of the team’s most productive players during its bumpy start to the 2025-26 campaign. Through 14 games, he has scored four goals and four assists for eight points, and is tied with rookie forward Jimmy Snuggerud for second on the team in scoring, just one point back of Pius Suter for first.

Sure, Kyrou has been silent on the scoresheet over the past four games, but losing a player of his caliber certainly dampens St. Louis’ offense when it needs a win. The team has just four wins so far, and is tied with the Calgary Flames for the worst record in the NHL.

Of course, with Kyrou being held out, trade speculation has quickly run rampant across the hockeyverse. However, it won’t be as simple as some might suspect. The Toronto native is in the third season of an eight-year contract that he signed in September 2022. It’s also the first year that Kyrou has a full no-trade clause, which will carry through the 2029-30 campaign. On top of that, Kyrou’s cap hit is $8.125 million, not an easy dollar figure to move unless the Blues were to retain.

Kyrou has spent his entire career with the Blues since being selected by the team in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He’s scored at least 65 points over the past four seasons, hitting the 70-point mark three times.
